If you are thinking about having a piece of jewellery custom made, you might be interested in learning about the process of "Lost Wax" jewellery carving and casting. The images below will give you an idea of what process your custom designed piece of jewellery will go through.

Each piece is hand-carved using a flame lamp to melt wax and wax carving tools to sculpt the design. This process continues until I have created the desired effect--a perfect wax replica of the final piece of cast silver. If you are interested in a custom designed piece, you can view the wax model before it goes to casting to ensure you are totally happy with your piece of jewellery.
The picture to the left shows a gents wedding ring carved in wax and ready to be cast in 18K gold. |

This is the wax piece after it has been cast in silver and still in rough form. The wax is "burned" out of the cast, hence the term "Lost Wax". This unfinished ring is now an original piece of art, as the wax has been burned out and the cast is completely broken away from the silver. At this stage the piece is unfinished and still has the sprue attached.
Until this pieces of jewellery is molded it is a one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery. When it is molded it can be re-cast to create new pieces as jewellery links. |
